The European Mathematical Society (EMS) decided in 2009 to launch an international mathematical webpage for the general public: www.mathematics-in-europe.eu, and the rpa (raising public awareness of mathematics) committee was asked to realize this project. At several workshops, the members of the committee prepared a detailed proposal. Munich Re, a large German insurance company, will be a sponsor. An agreement was signed at the end of 2009.
The present members of the rpa committee are John Barrow (United Kingdom), Ehrhard Behrends (chair of the committee, Germany), Thomas Bruss (Belgium), Franka Brueckler (Croatia), Mireille Chaleyat (France), Krzysztof Ciesielski (Poland), Nuno Crato (Portugal), Maria Dedó (Italy), Raúl Ibanez (Spain), Steen Markvorsen (Denmark), Karl Sigmund (Austria), Robin Wilson (United Kingdom), George Szpiro (Israel/Switzerland), Betul Tanbay (Turkey). Most of them have participated at the meeting of the committee in Brussels (2009) where first ideas for the structure of this webpage were collected:

The work of the committee is strongly supported by a group of students from the Freie Universität Berlin:
